On the move…

Family homelessness is a serious problem that harms our community.

  • The most recent official count identified 39 families (including 88 children under the age of 18) in Monroe County currently experiencing homelessness.

  • Homelessness causes a decline in the personal health of each of the members of those families.

  • Homelessness is a public health problem for our entire community.

  • Homelessness leads to negative educational outcomes for children, limiting their opportunities for future success in school and in life.

New Hope for Families provides the services and solutions that our community needs in order to address our family homelessness problem.

  • New Hope provides a unique combination of emergency shelter and individualized wrap-around services to help families find their path to stable housing.

  • New Hope provides accredited early child and education programs that help parents get back to work, and prepare children to succeed in school and in life.

  • The services New Hope provides are unduplicated. We are the only agency that provides these services.

  • New Hope’s compassionate and evidence-based model delivers exceptional results.

  • 90% of the parents who have children enrolled in our early childhood education program were able to gain or maintain employment.

  • 80% of the families who stay in our shelter move on to stable housing after they leave. This compares to the state average of 52%.

New Hope must relocate and expand in order respond to community needs and provide uninterrupted service to our clients.

• New Hope currently operates at 100% capacity virtually all the time.

• New Hope receives requests for assistance from far more families than we are able to serve.

• Our current facilities are insufficient to meet the demand for both emergency shelter and for accredited early childhood care and education in our community.

• New Hope purchased land in August 2019 at 1140 S. Morton.

• We will break ground in April 2021 to construct two buildings on our new property:

• The shelter building will accommodate up to 12 families at one time, representing a 70% increase in capacity.

• The early childhood care and education building will accommodate up to 48 children at one time, representing a 200% increase in capacity. This building will also contain our administrative offices.

• Due to the hospital’s move, and the city’s plans to redevelop the property, New Hope needs to move forward quickly with its expansion

New Hope’s capital project needs significant investment by the community, and we actively seek additional community partners.

  • Our board of directors has personally committed over a half a million dollars to this project.

  • Including support from other community sources, we have already (quietly) raised $3.25M, representing approximately 60% of our campaign goal.

  • We are now in conversation with prospective Major Gift partners for this project.

  • Commitments totaling an additional $1M would bring us to 77% of our goal, and position us for a successful public launch of the campaign.
